Another great showcase has come and gone. First off, I would like to take a minute to thank everyone that was able to attend the event yesterday. We have such a fantastic group of mentors and we are very grateful that they are able to be a part of our program. If you were unable to attend the event, please have a look at the photos attached below. We think the event turned out amazing. The project this year was to design a vacation home for the pickiest person I know, ME. To start, each student was assigned a region of the US. They were then to select a site on a lake in their region. The program for the house was: 2700-3000sq ft, 1st floor Master's Suite, 3 bedrooms on 2nd level, a large loft area designed to house of a pool table and seating area, in the style of Modern architecture. As the project stated the students realized that there was a lot of freedom with the design and creativity started to take over. Over the next few weeks, the students went through iterations after iterations until they were happy with their design. Going through rolls and rolls of bumwad (trace), the projects started to develop. From this point they worked on massing models, final design sketches, AutoCAD floor plans, and presentation models. This was very large and rigorous project for the students. As the instructor of these great young men and women, I am very proud of their success. One of the comments that was heard more than once yesterday was "I can't believe I'm looking at high school work." To me this really sums up the dedication of the students.
