What is the Architectural Design Showcase?
It is an event held for students to showcase their senior project. The major goal of this project is to connect the students to a group of architectural professionals that can evaluate their work and provide valuable feedback. So, we extended out invites to local architects and other professionals in the field. Nearly 30 professionals attended the event.
A little about the project........I showed a video about the solar decathlon, which is an annual competition that many universities enter to design and build cost efficient solar powered houses that are constructed at the competition. Next they were introduced to a house named the F10 house, which is an award winning piece of architecture. It utilizes various methods of incorporating some "green building systems", such as a bottle wall. Here is some more information about the F10 house. LINK
So their journey began, students they set out to redesign the remaining units on that street. It all started with a few simple sketches and they were off and running. They learned a wide range of skills from this project, from conceptual design through generating construction documents. They were also tasked with creating all of the display boards seen in the pictures below.
I would like to extend a HUGE THANKS to everyone that was able attend the event.
All in all, the event was a great! I am looking forward to doing it again next year!
So........ Tomorrow is the big day. Projects are done, displays are up, folks are coming. Students says until 9:25 putting the finishing touches on the projects. I think they came out great. It's now up to them to put on a great display.
I want to wish all of my seniors good luck.
This past week was a very humbling experience for me. The students in my Advanced Architectural Design Academy are preparing for the 2014 Architectural Showcase on Feb. 19th. I am absolutely humbled by their level of dedication to their project. I had more than half of the class stay to work till about 7pm (normally out at 1:50p) on Tuesday and Wednesday. It has been amazing to see the growth in their skills since first meeting them at the beginning of the school year.
