THE COLLEGE OF FINE + APPLIED ARTS at University of Illnois at Urbana-Champaign is offering an Architectural Drawing contest. I'm encouraging all of my students to enter the contest. You are competing for a scholarship to attend either an FAA College program or a 2015 summer program.
Please visit the site linked below to see the details. LINK Hey guys!
I was in your shoes just two years ago! (Wow, that so weird saying that…time flies!) I am a freshman at Philadelphia University, and I am majoring in architecture like many of you. This is currently my fifth week at PhilaU, and I would like to share my experience with you! (You can read in further detail on my blog at rachelsphilauexperience.weebly.com and see pictures of my projects too!) I mainly talk about my Design 1 and Drawing 101 class on my blog. Basically these classes are similar to Mr. Walker’s design class! Design 1 is very similar to the Architectural Design class (Junior Year). It’s very conceptual—they are trying to teach you to become designers. Our current project is working with Mondrian paintings, and trying to make them into three dimensional objects (cubes). The project before that we were making shoes out of cardboard, learning to see the shoe as slices/contours. In my Drawing 101 class, we are working on various techniques. I have actually never taken an art class, so it is a new experience for me. (I have always managed to find my away around not knowing much about art.) We have drawn leaves, buildings, compositions of chairs, etc. using different drawing styles (contour drawings, figure-ground, tone). While some of these projects sound a little cheesy, you will actually be surprised how much you learn from them! You become better analyzers of detail, you learn processes of design, and you learn to have fun and to be a little crazy! I absolutely love my design and drawing class! You will be prepared very well for these classes in college, because you have taken this class. About 50% students here have had an architecture course in high school, but the other 50% have not. I am not saying that these classes in college are easy, because they are not; they are a lot of work! (You must manage your time!!!!) But this class will help you prepare and will make the work slightly easier to handle. Seeing what you all can do, I know you all will do great in architectural schools; Mr. Walker is preparing you well! Keep up the good work! Please check out Philadelphia University, if you have not already! It’s a small design school right out of the city! There are about 3,000 students, and we have degrees from Fashion Design to Interior Design to Architecture to Physicians Assistant to Pre-Med. We have it all! While we aren’t in the city, you can get there quickly by the train or bus. There is so much to do on and off campus! I could not have picked a better school! If you have an questions about college applications, picking colleges, PhilaU, architecture school, or just questions in general, feel free to comment on my blog, or bellow on this blog! I would love to help! I wish you all the best of luck!!! You can do it! |
