Friday marked an exciting day for the students of the Architectural Design Academy. We loaded on the bus at 6am to start our adventure to Mill Run PA to visit "The best house ever designed". The ride was long and most of the students slept on the way there. They awoke to the brisk mountain air and the beauty that surrounded it. We spent about two hours touring Frank Lloyd Wright's "Masterpiece". We then loaded back on the bus to visit yet another home designed by FLW, Kentuck Knob. All in all a fantastic time was had by all.
HCPSS's Architectural Design Academy was invited to display to students' work at AIA Baltimore largest event of the year. It was a great event for all parties involved.

The ARL's Architectural Design Academy has been invited to the 2015 AIA Baltimore Excellence in Design Awards Celebration being held this Friday 10/9/15 at the Lithuanian Hall in Baltimore. This is the fifth year running that we have been invited to have the project on display. On behalf of HCPSS's ARL and the Architectural Design Academy, I would like to extend a huge thank you AIA Baltimore.
Thank you! Please visit AIA Baltimore's website for more information about the event. I've heard from a few students as they are heading off to college, so I wanted to take a moment to wish them safe travel and good luck on their new adventures.
Last week was amazing. We were very excited about the field trip to NYC that was scheduled for Friday. Even though the trip was fantastic, it ended being the icing on the cake for me last week. On Wednesday I was called into the principal's office where he was able to play a quick joke on me before extending his hand and saying "Congratulations Terry, your students voted you the ARL's Teacher of the Year". I was absolutely shocked and excited. For those who do not know much about the ARL, we have an absolutely amazing group of very talented and dedicated instructors. I was so honored to be selected the Teacher of the Year from this amazing group. On Thursday I along with the other teachers from around the county were invited to a very nice lunch and award ceremony where I was surprised by four of my students joining us. In addition under a very short deadline our media specialist was able to interview three of my students and develop a very well put together video that was played at the luncheon. I was very touched by the kind words that my students had to say about me. All in all, a very nice gesture from all. A special shout-out to Anastasiya, Chris, Haley, Israel, Kira, Myles, and Morgan. Thank you for the kind words, means more than you know. On Friday we were very lucky to be able to visit NYC. We visited the Guggenheim Museum, Stephen A. Schwarzman Library, and KPF Architects. While at the Guggenheim we were given a special architectural tour and workshop. The tour presented many interesting facts about the building, design challenges, and history. During the workshop students were challenged to create sketches and models of museum in a very short amount of time. The building is a stunning piece of architecture and we all found this to be an extremely interesting part of the trip. After we left the Guggenheim we headed to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Library, we did self tour of the building. The detailing and the craftsmanship of this building was absolutely gorgeous. Lastly, we were invited to visit KPF Architects. www.kpf.com. This part of our trip was absolutely amazing. We walked from the Stephen A. Schwarzman Library right across the street to the entrance of KPF, we made our way up to the 6th floor where we were directed to very large conference room behind a 20' glass wall. We were then greeted by four members of the firm Sean, John, Stephanie, and Shig. After a brief introduction they presented a variety of projects ranging from residential to very upscale commercial projects. They then opened the floor for students to ask questions and pick their brains. The students were very interested in the work that KPF has done. This was followed by a tour of their beautiful office. The students were amazed by the scale of the projects and level of detail that went into them. I was absolutely amazed at the hospitality of KPF Architects, truly one of the best experiences in a long time. Thank you KPF Architects!!!!!!!! |
