Courtesy of Cole B. It was interesting first week of school at the ARL. We began the week with an exploration of what to expect from the class and what is expected of us. On Day 2 we began our first project: create a name tag that could only be seen from a direct view. From any view other that straight on, the tag should be unreadable and look like a structure. During this project we switched from space to space to add our touch to fellow classmates' designs. This helped us incorporate a wide array of designs. On Day 3 we began our second project: We were instructed to sketch an object from nature. After we sketched the object of our choice were were asked to begin thinking about how we could use that object as inspiration for a building or structure. We then had to build a model of the building all while thing about where and what it would be if it were a building. The model was difficult because we were only able to use tape and fold the cards. Once they were completed we presented our designs to the class. These projects stretched our thinking abilities and provided a great introduction to the world of architecture and design and Architecture at the ARL.
